Alarm Bells for USMNT Over Timothy Weah
The American player was injured in Juventus' Serie A debut and his participation in the friendlies against Canada and New Zealand is now in doubt.
Thiago Motta, coach of Juventus, will be without both Frenchman Khephren Thuram and American Timothy Weah, who were injured in their Serie A debut against Como (3-0), until after the international break.
Following strong performances at the start of Serie A, where both started and had a significant impact (Weah scored), they will miss the match against Hellas Verona in the second round and almost certainly the game against Roma in the third round. They are expected to return to action after the September international break.
"Following muscle issues sustained during the match, Khephren Thuram and Timothy Weah underwent medical tests this morning. For Thuram, the tests revealed a low-grade injury to the left hamstring, while Weah has a low-grade injury to the right hamstring," Juventus reported.
"Further examinations are planned for both in about 10 days," the club added.
Weah was substituted at halftime by Italian Nicolo Savona, while Thuram played 67 minutes before being replaced by Italian Nicolo Fagioli.
Concerns for USMNT
With a muscle injury that could sideline him for several weeks, Weah's participation in the September international fixtures is in serious doubt.
The USMNT will play two friendlies against Canada (September 7) and New Zealand (September 10).
It seems unlikely that Weah will be available for these upcoming matches with the United States.
