4-Year Ban for Paul Pogba Over Doping! Is His Career Over?
The Italian Anti-Doping Tribunal punished the French midfielder for testing positive in a control last August.
The Italian Anti-Doping Tribunal sanctioned Paul Pogba with a four-year ban from playing, as reported from Italy. The French midfielder tested positive for a prohibited substance in a doping control on August 20, 2023, after the match between Juventus and Udinese.
In that Serie A match, Pogba did not play a single minute but was selected for the doping control, where he tested positive for synthetic testosterone.
Since then, the player was provisionally suspended pending the relevant sanction. Pogba requested a counter-analysis conducted in September, which yielded another positive result in October, this time for the hormone DHEA, commonly known as "the youth hormone."
Pogba claimed that the positive result was due to accidental consumption. The Prosecutor's Office offered him a reduction in the four-year suspension a couple of months ago, but the Frenchman was determined to prove his innocence and rejected the agreement.
Now, the Anti-Doping Tribunal has imposed a four-year ban on Pogba, although he can still appeal the decision to the CAS or to the National Anti-Doping Appeal Tribunal.
For Paul Pogba, who turns 31 on March 15, this is a severe blow, as he has only been able to play 8 matches since returning to Juventus in 2022 due to a long-term injury suffered shortly after his return.
