(VIDEO) Marcelo's Clash with Coach Leads to Departure from Fluminense
Moments of tension unfolded during the match between Fluminense and Grêmio, after witnessing a clash between coach Mano Menezes and Marcelo, the legend and former Real Madrid player.
It all happened during a substitution set to take place in the 89th minute of the match, just one minute before the final whistle, and it was sparked by a phrase that has yet to be revealed.
The tension between Marcelo and Mano Menezes was palpable
Menezes planned to make a double substitution in the 89th minute, with the score at 2-1 in favor of Fluminense. When he attempted to give Marcelo instructions, the player uttered a phrase that enraged the coach. Menezes confronted him and pushed him to send him back to the bench.
In the press conference, the coach refused to disclose what Marcelo had said. "I was going to put Marcelo in, but there was something I didn't like, so I changed my mind. I put in John Kennedy instead," was all he commented to the media. To make matters worse, Fluminense ended up dropping two points after Grêmio equalized in the 99th minute.
