What’s Happening at Manchester United? Here Are Their New Million-Dollar Losses
Manchester United announced losses of $146 million last season, although they insist this does not breach Financial Fair Play rules.
The Premier League allows losses of $136 million over three years, and United has lost $149 million in 2021-2022, $28.7 million in 2022-2023, and $113 million in 2023-2024.
Despite this, United is confident of adhering to the rules as the Premier League permits deductions for losses related to women's football, youth football, and infrastructure.
"The club is committed to both the Premier League and UEFA financial regulations," said Omar Berrada, Manchester United’s Chief Executive Officer.
Last season, Manchester United finished eighth in the Premier League, matching their worst season in the competition's history, came last in their Champions League group, and won the FA Cup, the second title under Erik ten Hag's tenure.
Additionally, in December, British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe completed the purchase of a 27.7% stake in the club.
As part of the club's restructuring, United laid off 250 employees in July, which, along with other measures, is expected to save between $39 and $45 million starting in 2025.
United anticipates generating around $872 million in revenue next year, following a record $860 million in revenue last season.
