West Ham Signs Guido Rodríguez, Leaving Mourinho Without Target
The Argentine midfielder joins West Ham after a long stint with Betis.
Guido Rodríguez has signed with West Ham and will be under the orders of Julen Lopetegui after leaving Betis in Spain, having turned down several renewal offers. Guido joins the English team to reunite with an old friend, Edson Álvarez, with whom he shared the field at Club América in Mexico, winning a couple of titles together.
It's important to remember that the Argentine midfielder was on FC Barcelona's radar to strengthen the team following the injuries of Pedri and the Dutchman, Frenkie De Jong. However, the Spanish club's interest in the midfielder waned, especially after Xavi Hernández's departure from the coaching role.
West Ham officially announced the arrival of the Argentine on Tuesday through a statement that reads: "West Ham United is pleased to confirm the signing of Argentine international, World Cup champion, and two-time Copa América winner, Guido Rodríguez."
"An international 30 times for his country, Rodríguez was a starter with the Argentine giant River Plate before winning Mexican league and cup titles playing alongside Edson Álvarez at Club América, and the Spanish Copa del Rey with Betis under Manuel Pellegrini in 2022," the statement continued.
On his part, Rodríguez did not hide his happiness about joining West Ham United and playing in the Premier League. "I am very happy to be here. I feel like it's every footballer's dream to play in the Premier League, and I was thrilled when I heard that West Ham was interested in me," the player stated.
In addition to Guido, Lopetegui's team continues to strengthen, having also secured the signings of Crysencio Summerville (Leeds), Max Kilman (Wolves), Luis Guilherme (Palmeiras), Wes Foderingham (Sheffield United), and Fullkrug (Borussia Dortmund).
