This Is How Chiesa Is Doing At Liverpool After Not Joining Barcelona
Federico Chiesa joined Liverpool as a dream come true, expressing his excitement and commitment to the ‘Reds’ colors. However, his start in the Premier League has been challenging, and the Italian player has yet to show his full potential at Anfield. Since arriving on August 29 for $13 million from Juventus, and without preseason preparation, Chiesa’s adjustment to the demands of a high-performing team has not been easy.
Under Arne Slot's management, Chiesa has had limited opportunities, playing only three matches since his signing. His debut came on September 17 in a brief Champions League appearance against Milan, followed by some minutes in the Premier League in a win against Bournemouth. However, his time on the pitch has been scarce, and a minor ankle injury has limited his training, placing him at the bottom of Liverpool's attacking rotation.
“It’s tough for a player who didn’t have preseason and hasn’t been able to train at full strength,” Slot said, urging patience while Chiesa works through a specific training program designed by the club to help him reach peak physical condition.
In a season where injuries to Jota and Darwin Núñez's inconsistency could have given him important minutes, the Italian has seen others, like Mohamed Salah and Luis Díaz, capitalize on those opportunities in attack. Additionally, his lack of continuity has prevented him from being called up for recent Nations League matches with the Italian national team.
Despite speculation about a possible move from Anfield in January, Liverpool insists that Chiesa will remain with the team, where he hopes to establish himself. Although the impressive form of other forwards like Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal at Barcelona might have complicated his adaptation to La Liga, Chiesa still has time to prove his worth and meet expectations with his new team.
Chiesa's challenge now is to show why his arrival at Liverpool generated such high expectations and to earn a place in the squad for the season’s second half.
