Sporting Confirms Manchester United’s Offer for Their Coach
Sporting CP has confirmed that Manchester United is ready to pay the €10 million release clause to secure Portuguese coach Rúben Amorim.
The Portuguese club issued an official statement today to the country's Securities Market Commission (CMVM), stating, “Manchester has shown interest in paying Sporting the amount of the specified clause,” confirming that the fee is €10 million.
Yesterday, Manchester United dismissed Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag, sparking immediate speculation that Amorim could step in as his replacement. Amorim, who played professionally until 2017, spent his career with Belenenses, Braga, and Benfica, and was an international with Portugal, even sharing the field with Cristiano Ronaldo at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Since taking over Sporting in March 2020 after coaching Braga, Amorim has led the team to two Portuguese league titles. This season, Sporting is off to an impressive start, unbeaten in the league with 30 goals scored and just 2 conceded. In the Champions League, they’ve collected seven points with two wins and a draw.
