Sergio Reguilón Expresses Admiration for Mourinho: "He Convinces You That You're the Best"
The current Brentford player opened up and spoke to The Times about the various moments and challenges he has faced in his career.
In an interview with The Times, Sergio Reguilón shares his main goal at Brentford: to keep the team in the top tier of English football. After his time at Tottenham, where Ange Postecoglou inexplicably excluded him from the player list, Reguilón emphasizes that this is part of football and business.
"I don't think it was a performance issue; I think there's another reason: this is football, it's business," the Spaniard stated.
At Brentford, Reguilón chooses to believe in the promise made by Thomas Frank: a commitment to the team, faith, and regular playing time, which is why he decides to join The Bees. During the interview, he reflects on his
beginnings, including his first experience in a classic when facing Lionel Messi and training on the street with his father a day before. "People would look at me and think, 'This guy is playing against Messi tomorrow. We lost that game, but I played very well."
He also shared his experience with José Mourinho as a coach during his time at Tottenham, making it clear that "The Special One" has been one of the best coaches he has had the honor to work with. "Mourinho? I love him. He's a tactical monster, but he also focuses on the little personal details," the 27-year-old footballer commented.
Additionally, he recounted a small anecdote with Mourinho where the Portuguese coach convinced him to play in a special way against Manchester City. "One day he said, 'If we beat (Manchester) City and you keep (Riyad) Mahrez in your pocket, I'll buy you a good Spanish ham.' The next day, my ham was there; he convinces you that you're the best," affirmed the defender.
