Roma Owners buy Everton
Everton announced that the Friedkin Group, led by American brothers Dan and Ryan Friedkin, owners of Roma, have reached an agreement with British-Iranian magnate Farhad Moshiri to become the new majority shareholders of the club.
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement to become custodians of this iconic football club,” said the Friedkins in a statement released on Everton's website.
The transaction is still subject to approval from the Premier League, the Football Association, and the financial regulatory body.
“We are eager to bring stability to the club and share our vision for its future, including the completion of the new Everton Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock,” the new owners added.
According to British media, the Friedkins have acquired a 94% stake in Moshiri's group, Blue Heaven Holdings.
In recent months, Moshiri had become the target of Everton fans’ anger due to the club’s erratic sporting trajectory.
The Friedkin Group had previously reached a preliminary agreement to acquire Moshiri's stake in June, but the deal fell through a month later.
However, the involvement of American magnate John Textor, owner of Crystal Palace, reignited negotiations, despite the fact that Textor was unable to complete the purchase of Everton before selling his shares in the London club, as Premier League rules prohibit the same owner from holding stakes in two clubs.
Everton, managed by Sean Dyche, is currently second from last in the standings, tied with the bottom team, after securing just one point in the first five matches of the Premier League.
