Premier League Referee Suspended for Insulting Jürgen Klopp
The Premier League's referees' association (PGMOL) has suspended one of its officials after he was caught on video calling Jürgen Klopp a "prick" and "arrogant." The video, whose date of recording is unknown, features Premier League referee David Coote disparaging Klopp, who managed Liverpool until last summer.
In the video, Coote can be heard saying, "He's a prick, an absolute prick. Besides what he did in a match against Burnley during the pandemic, he accused me of lying. I have no interest in talking to someone so f***ng arrogant. I will do everything I can to avoid talking to him, f***ng arrogant German."
Coote's colleague in the video adds, "To sum up, Klopp is a prick, they are pricks in Liverpool, and we hate them."
In another recording, Coote requests that the previous video not be shared. "It can't go anywhere, seriously," he says, while his colleague comments, "He's a Premier League referee, let's not ruin his career."
Coote officiated Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Aston Villa this Saturday, which ended contentiously as Birmingham fans were outraged that a potential penalty for Pau Torres was not called with the score at 1-0.
"David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect, pending a full investigation," stated the PGMOL in a press release.
