Pep Guardiola Addresses Future Amid England's Tuchel Hire
The Manchester City manager stated that he still intends to coach a national team, despite England's hiring of Tuchel.
Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager, affirmed his intention to coach a national team, despite England already hiring German coach Thomas Tuchel.
The Spanish manager, who has been at City for nine years, has consistently expressed his desire to lead a national team, though he hasn't set a specific timeline for it.
"Yes," Guardiola responded when asked if he would like to coach a national team.
Despite Tuchel's appointment, the English Football Association (FA) contacted Guardiola over the summer to explore his interest in replacing Gareth Southgate.
"Tuchel is the coach, forget about the rest. I manage City, forget about the rest because it’s not important," Guardiola emphasized.
Will he renew his contract?
The Spanish coach's contract expires next June, and he has yet to decide whether to renew or leave after nine seasons in which he has won everything, including six Premier League titles, four of them consecutively, and the club's first Champions League title in history.
"The club has never told me anything (about when I need to decide my future)," Guardiola said this Friday in a press conference.
"Of course, I am sure they have options for when I leave. It will happen sooner or later, and they need to be prepared. It won't be a surprise. I have to be truly convinced that it will be best for the club. I won't delay any decision if I believe it will be bad for the club. And if they ask for my opinion on my successor, I will give it, but it's not for me to decide; it has to be the club," Guardiola added.
