Liverpool Dominates Preseason Without Klopp or New Signings
Liverpool’s stellar preseason in their U.S. tour has made their rivals nervous, and for now, Jürgen Klopp is out of sight, out of mind.
The British side has had an excellent preseason, winning all three of their matches in the States. The Anfield squad can boast of instilling fear and unease in their opponents, despite being the only major European club not to sign any new players.
After Klopp left the Reds' bench, it seemed like a dark period was looming. However, the arrival of Dutchman Arne Slot has breathed new life into the team, leading them to victory in all three preseason games against Betis, Arsenal, and Manchester United.
First up, they faced the Spanish side at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, where they secured their first win with a lone goal from Szoboszlai, ending the match 1-0.
Next, they took on two Premier League powerhouses, with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal being their second challenge of the preseason. In this match, Mo Salah showed he’s in top form, scoring Liverpool’s first goal in the 13th minute. Fábio Carvalho added the second, making it 2-0. Arsenal tried to fight back with a goal from Kai Havertz, but it wasn’t enough, and the match ended 2-1 in Slot’s favor.
In their third challenge, Liverpool faced Manchester United and put on a quality display, crushing Erik Ten Hag’s side 3-0 with goals from Carvalho, Curtis Jones, and Tsimikas. This performance shows the team’s high motivation and sharp form as they head into the 2024-2025 Premier League season, with their opening match against Ipswich on August 17th.
