Guardiola Congratulates Liverpool on Premier League Title but Issues a Warning for Next Season
Pep Guardiola had no hesitation in congratulating Liverpool for winning the 2024/25 Premier League title, but he also made it clear that Manchester City will not back down and will fight fiercely to compete next season. Jürgen Klopp’s side clinched the championship with four games to spare after a 5-1 win over Tottenham, and while Guardiola recognized their achievement, he also issued a subtle warning.
Message of Congratulations — and a Warning
Following Manchester City's victory over Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semifinal, Guardiola sent a respectful yet competitive message to the new champions:
"On behalf of myself and the entire club, we want to congratulate Liverpool Football Club for their Premier League victory. Well deserved, no doubt about it. A fantastic team. Give me one year, like the past four, and hopefully next season we can do better and compete until the very end. Congratulations, Liverpool."
While his words were full of praise, Guardiola made it clear that City will not be standing still. The Catalan coach emphasized that his squad is determined to bounce back stronger:
"Give me a year, like the last four, and hopefully next season we’ll do better and fight until the end."
Recognition of Liverpool's Excellence
Guardiola also praised the overall level of the Premier League this season, acknowledging that Liverpool was the most consistent team:
"The level of the teams is outstanding, and Liverpool were the champions in a league of very high competitive standard."
The Future of Manchester City
Despite missing out on the league title, Guardiola remains optimistic about Manchester City's future. He highlighted the club’s strong foundation of young talents and emerging stars that will keep them in the hunt for major honors:
"There’s a bright future for Manchester City. We have a solid base of young players and emerging talent."
