Chelsea Reaches Agreement with Wolves for Pedro Neto
Chelsea signs Pedro Neto, adding another player to their squad for the 2024-2025 season.
New player for Chelsea. According to “The Athletic,” the London club has reached an agreement with Wolves to sign Portuguese forward Pedro Neto, after agreeing to pay a fee of around €60 million ($65.4 million). With this signing, Enzo Maresca’s squad adds another player to their already large roster for the upcoming 2024-2025 season.
The 24-year-old, who made 20 appearances for Wolves last season, will undergo medical tests to fully integrate with his new team. Neto registered two goals and nine assists last season and managed to recover from an injury in time to be part of Portugal's squad for the 2024 European Championship in Germany.
Neto joined Wolves from Braga in 2019 and later extended his contract with the club until 2027. It's worth noting that Arsenal was in talks to sign the player in 2022, but he ultimately stayed with the team.
Chelsea adds another player to their roster after already signing several others, including Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Aaron Anselmino, and Samu Omorodion.
Neto's arrival at Chelsea comes as Maresca's side searched all summer for a forward capable of creating danger in the opponent's box. Although their top target was Nico Williams, they knew the young star preferred to stay in Spain, either by joining Barcelona or remaining with Athletic Bilbao.
Additionally, Nico Williams' €58 million release clause, which had to be paid in a single lump sum, was another obstacle. Chelsea will be paying slightly more for Neto, but the payment structure will be more in line with the club's preferences.
