Arsenal Extends Mikel Arteta's Contract
The Spanish manager will remain in charge of the "Gunners" until 2027 after reaching an agreement with the London club. The goal: to win the Premier League.
Spanish coach Mikel Arteta has renewed his contract with Arsenal. The Gunners announced this through their social media channels on Thursday.
While Arsenal did not specify the duration of Arteta's new contract, stating only that he "signed a new long-term contract with the club," The Athletic reported and EFE confirmed that the Spanish manager has extended his commitment with the Gunners for three more years, until 2027.
Arteta, who joined the club in 2019 as a replacement for Unai Emery, has led Arsenal to an FA Cup victory in 2020.
Arteta has also made Arsenal competitive again, finishing as Premier League runners-up in the past two seasons and securing qualification for the Champions League in the last two, ending a six-year absence from Europe's top competition.
This summer, the Spaniard received reinforcements in Raheem Sterling, Mikel Merino, and Riccardo Calafiori, and he aims to challenge Manchester City, the champions of the last four Premier League titles, for the throne of English football.
At the start of the season, Arsenal has seven points, with two wins and a draw.
This Sunday, they will visit Tottenham Hotspur in a match marked by absences in midfield due to the injuries of Martin Odegaard and Merino, as well as the suspension of Declan Rice.
