Álvarez Responds to Guardiola in Ongoing Feud
Julián Álvarez keeps his future up in the air and responds to Pep Guardiola.
Julián Álvarez is still leaving his future uncertain. The Argentine is currently competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics with the Argentina national team. After their match against Ukraine, where they secured their spot in the next round, Álvarez decided to address comments made by his coach, Pep Guardiola.
Álvarez spoke to TyC Sports, a network in his home country, creating even more speculation and uncertainty about his future for the upcoming season.
This all started when Guardiola made comments to the press before Manchester City’s match against Barcelona during their US tour, stating that he knows Julián is undecided about his future and unsure of what decision he will make.
"I read that he’s going to think about it. Fine. He’ll let us know what he wants to do. When he finishes thinking about his future, his agent will call Txiki (Begiristain, City’s Director of Football) and we’ll see what happens. We’re not thinking about replacements. I know he wants to play in important moments too, but so do others. Does he want more? That’s fine. So, think about it. When he has decided, he’ll let us know," said the coach.
In response, Julián addressed his Manchester City manager directly, clarifying that he didn’t say anything bad and that he’s fully focused on the Olympics with his national team.
"I heard what Pep said. I didn’t say anything bad or out of the ordinary. I’ve always said I’m comfortable at Manchester City, but making a post-season assessment is logical. I haven’t taken the time to think it through. When the Olympics are over, I’ll take my time to think about what I want for myself. We’ll see what happens next," he affirmed.
"Last season, I was one of the players with the most minutes in the Premier League, but it’s true that in some important matches, when you’re left out, you don’t like it," concluded the Argentine.
