Martino: "Messi Will Do What He Has Done his Whole Life, Be Present with Argentina"
Inter Miami coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino stated that Leo Messi had a "great" game against Saint Louis in the MLS (3-3) and that now he will do "what he has done all his life, be present with Argentina."
"Messi was key alongside Jordi Alba in all our attacks. He insisted throughout the 90 minutes. I haven't seen any ankle problems from my point of view; he finished well and now he will do what is appropriate, what he has done all his life, be present with the Argentine national team," Martino said in the post-match press conference.
Inter Miami drew 3-3 at home with Saint Louis with goals from Leo Messi, Uruguayan Luis Suárez, and Spaniard Jordi Alba.
Alba, a former Barcelona player, scored the decisive goal for the 3-3 in the 87th minute for an Inter Miami side that is temporarily leading the East with a two-point advantage over Cincinnati, who have two games in hand.
Asked about what awaits Inter Miami without Messi during the Copa America, Martino did not hide the fact that his absence will be felt in the team.
"Regarding Leo, Jordi, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suárez, they are the players they are, they have received a lot of attention, and it is logical that we all hope they will have a strong impact on the game," Martino said.
"But I insist on what would happen to other teams when they lack these players," he added.
