Lionel Messi Vows to Come Back Stronger Next Season
Recently eliminated in the first round of the MLS playoffs with Inter Miami, Lionel Messi is determined to return even stronger next season to capture the championship title.
Inter Miami suffered a hard fall. The Florida franchise, a heavy favorite for the final title after dominating the regular MLS season with a record number of points, was surprisingly eliminated this weekend in the first round of the playoffs following a 3-2 home defeat against Atlanta United. This loss was a significant disappointment in the southeastern United States. Unsurprisingly, Lionel Messi was also deeply affected by this early exit, despite having done everything possible to lead his teammates.
Although he scored the second goal for his team in this playoff opener, the 37-year-old Argentine was unable to fend off the offensive waves from a team that had finished ninth in the Eastern Conference, which is the last playoff spot in MLS.
A few days after the disappointment against Atlanta, the 2022 World Cup champion broke his silence, expressing his determination to come back stronger next season with the goal of winning that coveted title for Inter Miami.
Messi’s ambitions
“A season has ended in which we continued to grow as a club, and even though we didn't achieve some of our goals, we want more. Thank you to everyone who accompanied and supported us. Now, we will prepare to come back stronger next year,” stated the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner through a message on his social media.
Inter Miami can breathe a sigh of relief, as they will be able to count on their Argentine star, who scored 20 goals in 19 regular season matches this year. Will he deliver an equally exceptional performance next year? The answer awaits in a few months.
