Monaco Achieves Epic Victory Over Strasbourg
A double from Moroccan Eliesse Ben Seghir led to a dramatic comeback at the Meinau Stadium against Strasbourg, ending in a 3-1 win that propelled Adi Hutter's Monaco team into second place in Ligue 1, just behind Paris Saint-Germain.
Monaco emerged from a slump after drawing with Lille and subsequent losses to Nice and Angers, seizing the opportunity to leapfrog Marseille into second position in the eleventh round, although the match was not secured until the final stages.
Strasbourg, having won only one of their last three games, initially took the lead at the half-hour mark with a goal from Ivorian Guela Doue, assisted by Diego Moreira.
The game's dynamic shifted in the last ten minutes, beginning with a penalty at the 80th minute due to a handball by Portuguese Diego Moreira. Ben Seghir converted the penalty, beating Serbian goalkeeper Dorde Petrovic for the first time.
The decisive second goal arrived in the 89th minute through a swift move on the left by Maghnes Akliouche, who crossed the ball for Ben Seghir to score once again past Petrovic.
The final blow was delivered shortly thereafter when George Ilenikhena capitalized on a mistake by Guinea's Sidou Sow right after the restart, breaking away to face the goalkeeper alone and sealing the victory.
With this win, Monaco now sits second, three points behind Paris Saint-Germain and two points ahead of Marseille.
