Lyon loses lead again, draws with Auxerre in Ligue 1
Olympique Lyon let another lead slip away, ending up with a 2-2 draw against Auxerre at the Groupama Stadium in Matchday 9 of Ligue 1. Despite a brace from Georges Mikautadze, Auxerre leveled the score with goals from Sinaly Diomande and Hamed Junior Traore.
The first half was all about Lyon in their home stadium. Although it didn’t show on the scoreboard, Lyon’s offense looked solid, capped off by a well-taken penalty from Georges Mikautadze in the 45+5 minute.
The second half started differently, with Auxerre, in desperate need of points, equalizing just two minutes in through Diomande. But Mikautadze stepped up like a hero, scoring again to put Lyon back in the lead in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately for Lyon, that lead was short-lived, as Traore found the net in the 72nd minute, benefiting from some defensive slack, sealing the draw.
With this result, Olympique Lyon remains in seventh place in the Ligue 1 standings with a total of 14 points, while Auxerre stays in 13th place with 10 points, just three points above the relegation zone.
