When will Kimpembe Return to PSG?
Sidelined since February 2023 due to a ruptured right Achilles tendon, Presnel Kimpembe provided an update on his condition in an interview with Canal Football Club.
Is the end of the tunnel finally in sight for Kimpembe? After a severe Achilles tendon injury that has kept him out since February 2023, the 2018 World Cup champion says he's finally ready to return to the pitch alongside his Paris Saint-Germain teammates. “I feel really good, I have great sensations. I've resumed team training, but it’s been a long year. Did I ever think about quitting football? No, never,” explained the central defender in his interview with Canal Football Club this Sunday, where he detailed the ordeal he’s endured in recent months, including setbacks and surgeries.
“I had an Achilles tendon rupture, it's the worst injury, worse than tearing the cruciate ligaments. At that moment, you question everything, and even though some saw me as done, I knew I would come back. Never in my life would I have imagined going a year and a half, maybe even two years without playing, and having to be so patient, training every day without knowing when I’d be back,” he confessed candidly. Despite everything, he is confident in his ability to earn a spot under Luis Enrique, even with the strong competition for the central defender role at PSG.
"You will discover a new Presnel"
“In all the big teams, there is competition. I faced it when I arrived, and I still face it today, and will face it tomorrow as well. It’s not a problem; I started with the best: Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, David Luiz, Zoumana Camara, Abdou Diallo… I know what competition is,” affirmed the 29-year-old, aware that his bond with his boyhood club helped him overcome all these obstacles, even during his darkest times. “A love story with Paris? Of course, and it’s mutual. When you're from Paris, grow up here, and train to become a pro… there aren’t many like us. When the time comes, you will discover a new Presnel, always ready to defend the club’s colors, at 100%, with the same hunger and determination,” he concluded, more determined than ever. The message was clear.
