VIDEO | Ligue 1 Highlights: LOSC Lille vs Stade Rennes
LOSC Lille, at home amidst a tribute during the guest return of Eden Hazard, sought victory to climb into UEFA Champions League spots against a Stade Rennes side whose European hopes fade with dropped points. Lille made their home advantage count to come back and secure a point, ending in a 2-2 draw.
The home team felt the strain from their Thursday match in Europe against Sturm Graz and took some time to get going. Rennes capitalized on this and found themselves 0-2 up within twenty minutes. In the first play of the game, Julien Stephan's side took the lead through Ludovic Blas, assisted by Benjamin Bourigeaud. Arnaud Kalimuendo then found the net from a pass by the Algerian, Amine Gouiri.
The home team woke up towards the end of the match, with their top scorer, Jonathan David, notably making an impact. David reduced the deficit in the 84th minute, following a pass from Trevis Dago, and then equalized in the 92nd minute, beating Steve Mandanda for the second time.
The draw keeps Lille in fourth place, securing a spot in the Champions League, while Rennes remains in eighth place, without a win in three matches and still outside of European qualification.
