Marseille Announce the Signing of Mason Greenwood
Olympique de Marseille has announced the signing of English forward Mason Greenwood on a five-year contract from Manchester United. Greenwood, 22, spent last season on loan at Getafe.
Greenwood signed his contract after passing the medical examination, the club said in a statement that did not disclose the financial details of the deal.
The BBC reported that the transfer could be worth up to $33.9 million.
Marseille highlighted Greenwood's season at Getafe, where he scored 10 goals and provided 6 assists in 36 matches, earning him the fans' vote as the best player of the team.
Additionally, Greenwood said he chose Marseille as his new destination because "it is a club with a great history, an incredible crowd" and he had "good conversations with the new coach, Roberto De Zerbi," whose work he knows from his time at Brighton.
De Zerbi's arrival was "very important" in his decision, Greenwood added. "He has very precise tactical ideas" and Brighton was "a very enjoyable team to watch," he emphasized.
