Luis Enrique's PSG Come From Behind Against Brest to Maintain Perfect Ligue 1 Run
A trademark thunderbolt from Fabián Ruiz set Paris Saint-Germain on the path to victory against Brest, extending Luis Enrique’s side's perfect record in Ligue 1 and securing their fourth win. Ousmane Dembélé, who scored twice in the 3-1 win, played a key role, netting his third goal of the season.
Dembélé, previously criticized for his lack of accuracy, scored the equalizer just before halftime and sealed the match with his second goal. Ruiz’s goal further affirmed his strong form, both with the national team and PSG.
However, the return to Ligue 1 after the international break was challenging for PSG, who lacked the freshness seen in earlier games. They struggled more than expected against a lower-ranked Brest team, which had already suffered two defeats and won only one game. Despite their struggle, PSG secured the win, maintaining their lead and pulling two points clear of Monaco and Marseille.
Ahead of their European campaign starting Wednesday against Girona at the Parc des Princes, PSG had to fight hard to turn around what seemed like a routine match. The win against Brest added to their previous victories over Le Havre, Montpellier, and Lille, but they had to dig deep after Brest took the lead with a penalty in the 30th minute. Marco Bizot, Brest’s goalkeeper, had earlier saved a couple of attempts from Joao Neves and Nuno Mendes.
Nuno Mendes clearly fouled Ludovic Ajorque in the box, leading to an obvious penalty converted by Romain Del Castillo. PSG struggled in those moments, appearing rushed and disorganized.
The equalizer came just before halftime in the 42nd minute, when Marco Asensio delivered a brilliant cross from the left, which Bradley Barcola headed to Dembélé, who scored with a precise header at the far post.
For much of the second half, PSG controlled the game but lacked clear chances, with attackers tangled up by Brest’s well-organized defense. Ruiz provided the breakthrough with a long-range strike in the 73rd minute, after receiving the ball from Achraf. The powerful shot found the top corner of Bizot’s goal.
A minute later, Dembélé scored again in the 74th minute with a shot from a loose ball to seal the win, relieve PSG, and solidify their position at the top of the French league.
