Lille Closes in on Ligue 1 Leadership After Beating Angers
Jonathan David's LOSC Lille earned their second consecutive victory at the start of Ligue 1, defeating Angers 2-0 with goals from Thomas Meunier and Mohamed Bayo.
After finishing in European spots last season, and with a new coach at the helm, Lille is now targeting the top spot and the Ligue 1 title. Following their opening win, they continued their strong performance in this match.
Against Angers, Lille kept up their momentum with five shots on target and controlled 65% of possession. Thomas Meunier was the key player, scoring the first goal with a precise strike in the 34th minute. Mohamed Bayo sealed the win with a second goal in stoppage time, at the 90+5' mark.
With this result, Lille moves into second place in the Ligue 1 standings with six points, tied on points but ahead of AS Monaco on goal difference. Meanwhile, Angers suffered their second defeat and dropped to 16th place with zero points.
