Ligue 1: Can Mason Greenwood push Olympique de Marseille to demolition derby day win?
The English forward has had a dominant start in the French league with five goals in three matches. Will his hot streak continue against Nice in the Derby?
Off the pitch, Mason Greenwood is an undeniably controversial figure that many teams (including England’s national side) will not have in their squads.
But Marseille made a punt on the former Manchester United man, and it is clearly paying off, with the English forward scoring five goals in Marseille’s opening three Ligue 1 games.
A race to the division’s top scorer is already shaping up nicely against PSG’s Bradley Barcola.
Greenwood will have to work firstly against the local rivals from Nice and also a home record in Le Velodrome that sees Marseille with just four Ligue 1 wins in the team's last 10 games: a record that left Marseille without European soccer this season.
Nice have had a rocky start to the new Ligue 1 campaign with a shock opening day defeat to newly promoted Auxerre followed by a draw against Toulouse.
This was at least followed by a win at Angers, but Marseille is set to be the biggest challenge of the season so far, by some margin.
