Mastantuono, a Raw Diamond With a European Future
Franco Mastantuono, River Plate’s latest sensation, is drawing attention from Europe’s biggest clubs after his brilliant performance in the Superclásico.
A Superclásico That Put Him on the International Radar
The young star from River Plate is making headlines across several Spanish media outlets. After scoring a goal and delivering a standout performance in the Superclásico against Boca Juniors, Franco Mastantuono is now closely watched by scouts from top clubs around the world.
At just 17 years old, Mastantuono became the youngest player ever to score in the historic rivalry. His outstanding display has not only impressed fans in Argentina but has also caught the attention of Europe's elite, with Real Madrid emerging as a serious suitor.
Real Madrid and Other Giants Eye the Rising Star
The prospect of Mastantuono joining Real Madrid grows stronger amid upcoming changes at the club. With Carlo Ancelotti set to take over as Brazil’s national team coach, it is expected that Santiago Solari —a former River Plate player between 1996 and 1999— will step into the managerial role, and he has reportedly requested Mastantuono’s signing for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup squad.
Back in April 2024, the Spanish newspaper "Marca" had already featured Mastantuono on its cover, highlighting Real Madrid's interest in acquiring him during the previous summer transfer window. It is well known in Spain that the only way to secure his services would be by paying his release clause, currently set at 45 million euros.
Other European Giants Also in the Race
The interest isn’t limited to Madrid. Clubs like Barcelona, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain have also inquired about the talented youngster. PSG even made a formal approach, declaring Mastantuono a top priority.
While everything points toward a future in Europe for Mastantuono, River Plate has made it clear that the player will remain at the club at least until 2026, as he will only reach legal age this coming August.
