When Will De Jong, Araujo, Gavi, Olmo, and the Rest of the Injured Barcelona Players Return?
The Barcelona infirmary is full of players recovering from injuries. How long until they return to play? We’ll tell you.
Despite securing their seventh victory in LaLiga and extending their unbeaten run, the recent injury to Marc-André ter Stegen adds to the challenges faced by the new Barcelona under the management of coach Thomas Flick.
With ter Stegen sidelined, a total of eight players are currently in the club's medical facility, though some are nearing the end of their recovery processes.
1. Frenkie de Jong
Target Return: Before the October break
The Dutch midfielder suffered a grade II sprain in his right ankle in mid-August, but he appears to be on the mend. De Jong has rejoined group training, and he is expected to be available for selection either against Young Boys in the Champions League on October 1 or Alavés on October 6.
2. Gavi
Status: In the final recovery phase
The young midfielder is nearing the end of his rehabilitation from a serious knee injury. He has participated in some training sessions with the team, but both the coaching staff and medical team are cautious and do not wish to rush his return. He is not expected to play until after the October international break.
3. Ronald Araujo
Update: Returning sooner than anticipated
The Uruguayan defender sustained an injury during the Copa América in July and underwent surgery. Initially expected to be out for four months, Araujo is currently training at the Ciutat Esportiva, and the club believes he may return earlier than initially projected.
4. Andreas Christensen
Current Situation: Ongoing recovery
The Danish center-back is in the process of recovery. He opted to stop playing to resolve persistent Achilles tendon issues that plagued him last season. Initially, he was expected to be sidelined for about two months with a return in November, but now it seems his recovery may take longer.
5. Dani Olmo
Objective: Aim for the Bayern match or the Clásico
The forward suffered an injury against Girona on September 15, with an estimated recovery time of four to five weeks. Olmo is a crucial player for Flick, who hopes to have him back for the visit of Bayern Munich on October 23 or for the Clásico on October 26.
6. Fermín López
Update: Another valuable addition post-international break
The midfielder has been recovering from a muscle injury in his left thigh but faced another setback when he injured his other leg just before his expected return against Monaco.
7. Marc Bernal
Expectation: Out for the season
The young midfielder is in the early stages of recovery after a severe knee injury sustained in Vallecas. He is expected to miss the entire season, spending a year on the sidelines.
8. Marc-André ter Stegen
