Unai Simón Confirms That Lunin is The Best Goalkeeper in LaLiga
Unai Simón, despite winning the Zamora Trophy for the goalkeeper with the fewest goals conceded in LaLiga EA Sports, does not consider himself one of "the best goalkeepers in the competition" and chose Andriy Lunin of Real Madrid as the standout goalkeeper of the recent season.
"Everyone has their own opinion. I don't consider myself among the top three goalkeepers in LaLiga either. Mamardashvili has had a great season, Ter Stegen and Oblak still seem like world-class goalkeepers to me... Lunin seems like the best of the season to me despite not having completed the 28 matches for the Zamora," he declared during his concentration with the Spanish national team.
Simón responded this way after being asked about comments from his national teammate and rival at Real Sociedad, Alex Remiro, who did not include him in that "top 3."
"I don't have to be among the top three. I think sometimes these things are exaggerated too much, and attempts are made to destabilize with comments that lead nowhere," he said.
He also downplayed the importance of winning the Zamora Trophy for his confidence ahead of the Euros.
"The award was decided on the last matchday. If we had conceded one or two goals, I would have come to the national team in the same way. For Athletic and for me as Athletic's goalkeeper, it means a lot because it had been a long time since we won that trophy, but here in the national team, the three goalkeepers start from scratch. It's a completely different competition, and now it's about fighting to play in the debut against Croatia," he concluded.
