This is what Simeone thinks about the possible expulsions of Vinícius and Endrick
Diego Simeone, coach of Atlético de Madrid, was asked this Wednesday in a press conference about two controversial actions by Real Madrid in their most recent match: a laughing gesture by Vinícius in front of the fourth official and an elbow from Endrick off the ball. In response to the journalist's question, which sought his opinion on whether these actions should have resulted in expulsions, Simeone firmly replied, "You already said it all. There's no need to comment further."
Simeone's statement comes at a time of intense rivalry, as his team prepares to face Real Madrid in the derby next Sunday. Despite the controversy, the Argentine coach focused on the importance of his team and the need to remain competitive in the championship race.
"We always aim to be at the top"
In the same press conference, Simeone also discussed Atlético de Madrid's goals for the season, stating that their focus is "to accumulate as many points as possible" and "to always aim to be at the top." Atlético, currently trailing in the standings, is looking to improve their results ahead of their visit to Celta, a team he praised for their good home results under coach Claudio Giráldez.
The coach reflected on the necessity of having a competitive team to challenge giants like Barcelona and Real Madrid, mentioning that in the twelve years he has been at the club, only these three teams have won titles in the league. "No other team has won apart from Real Madrid, Barcelona, and us, with two. That speaks for itself," he added.
Regarding the team's performance, Simeone analyzed that after an unsatisfactory first half against Rayo, there was a good reaction in the second. Atlético will play their fourth match in twelve days, and the coach is managing the workload of his players to ensure they are in optimal condition for the derby.
