Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid suffered an injury during the derby against Atlético Madrid, a situation that Ancelotti announced in a press conference and which was confirmed by the club on Monday.

The goalkeeper, who struggled to kick with his left foot during the latter stages of the 1-1 derby draw against Atlético Madrid, missed Monday's recovery training after undergoing tests that confirmed the injury.

“Following tests carried out today on our player Thibaut Courtois by Real Madrid’s Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an abductor injury in his left leg,” the club announced on its website.

According to sources within the club, as reported by EFE, Courtois will be out for two weeks, making his expected return on October 19 against Celta Vigo.

Before the international break begins next week, Carlo Ancelotti’s side has two important fixtures: a Champions League match away at Lille on Wednesday, October 2, and a La Liga clash against Villarreal on Saturday, October 5. In both matches, Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin will take Courtois' place.

This will mark Lunin’s first appearance of the season after sharing duties with Kepa Arrizabalaga last season while covering for Courtois’ long-term knee injury.
