Simeone: “We Need to Play Better in Attack”
Diego Pablo Simeone, coach of Atlético de Madrid, did not hide the importance of the victory achieved this Thursday against Celta at Balaídos, but admitted that his team needs to “play better in attack” because they have “the means” to do so.
“The team is working very well collectively on a defensive level. Except for the first half in Vallecas, the team has performed very well defensively. Now we need to improve in attack, in building partnerships. We will look for it because the players are willing to do anything. Today, with great patience, we took three points against a rival that hadn’t lost since February,” he emphasized at a press conference.
He asked for “time” for Julián Álvarez and Sorloth, and expressed confidence that the Norwegian striker's goal is “on the way” because he is working very well. He also acknowledged that the substitutions gave the team a different energy in the second half.
“In the second half, the changes with Rodrigo, Julián, Correa, and Llorente's entry on the wing provided us with more options. They had opportunities before us, but Griezmann and Julián combined to bring us three very important points,” he commented.
“We must remain calm, knowing that we are a team that needs to have patience and keep a clean sheet, because that’s where the match enters a space we like,” he concluded.
