Real Madrid will play the final of the 2024 Intercontinental Cup at the Lusail Stadium, which hosted the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the tournament's organizing committee announced on Tuesday. 

The organizers announced that Stadium 974 will host the match between the champions of Concacaf and Conmebol, as well as the semifinal, which will feature the winner of the first match against Al Ahly of Egypt, who advanced to this round after defeating Al Ain from the United Arab Emirates in the second round.

Stadium 974 was one of the venues of the 2022 World Cup and had been planned to be dismantled after the tournament, as it was the first removable stadium built with sustainable materials. However, it remains standing.

The final, in which Real Madrid is already assured of a place, will be played at Lusail Stadium, which also hosted the 2022 World Cup final.

Hassan Al Kuwari, the Executive Director of Commercial Affairs, Marketing, and Events for the tournament organizing committee, expressed his happiness that Qatar will host another major tournament and that the final will coincide with the second anniversary of the 2022 World Cup final. 

“We look forward to welcoming fans from around the world to experience that exciting atmosphere. As always, fans will be able to enjoy the hospitality, the incredible cultural variety, and the infrastructure of Qatar for a unique experience,” he assured.
