FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta stated on Monday that, as of today, the club is financially capable of pursuing the signing of Spanish international winger Nico Williams.

"We could handle a signing of this caliber," Laporta assured in an interview with Catalunya Ràdio. He mentioned that he likes the Athletic Club player "a lot," but emphasized that the decision on this potential acquisition rests with the sporting director, Deco, and the new coach, Hansi Flick.

Laporta expressed satisfaction that "soon" Barça will announce the completion of "a series of operations" that will allow the club to "return to normal financial fair play" after three years.

"This helps a lot, especially to enter the market and make necessary operations to strengthen the team," Laporta added, without specifying which operations will be prioritized during the summer transfer window.

LaLiga President Javier Tebas recently stated during a conference in Mexico that Barcelona "is emerging from its difficult economic situation" and that, compared to previous years, "this year they are in the best position" to comply with financial control and make the signings they want.

After an outstanding season with Athletic Club, winning the Copa del Rey, and his impressive performance in the Euros, many teams are showing interest in Nico Williams.

With a $54 million release clause, he becomes even more desirable for Europe's top clubs.

The young winger has attracted interest from Premier League clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea, as well as Italian teams including Juventus, AC Milan, and champions Inter Milan.
