Nacho Fernández Speaks Out on Potential Real Madrid Return
Real Madrid is considering signing a center-back to replace Militao after his serious injury, and Nacho’s name has come up as a possible option.
Spanish defender Nacho Fernández, now playing for Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia, recently addressed rumors of a possible return to Real Madrid during an appearance on COPE's "El Partidazo." Nacho, who spent years with the club, made it clear that his time at Real Madrid is firmly in the past and that he is content with his decision to leave.
“I haven’t received any calls from Real Madrid,” Nacho explained, adding that even if such a call came, he wouldn’t reconsider his choice. “I knew exactly what I wanted, even knowing I might play between 30 and 50 games. I’m very happy here, and now I support Real Madrid as a fan,” he stated.
Reflecting on His Departure from Real Madrid
Nacho, who logged countless minutes with Real Madrid over the years, spoke about leaving with a sense of clarity. He shared that he felt it was the right time to close his chapter with the club. “I knew I’d play plenty of games if I stayed, but that didn’t affect my decision. My mind was made up. Now, I watch Real Madrid on TV and support them as just another fan,” he added, also emphasizing that he has no regrets.
Support for Real Madrid’s Homegrown Talent
When asked about Real Madrid’s options to reinforce its defense amid recent absences, Nacho voiced strong support for the club’s young players. “I’d love for them to give the kids from the academy a chance instead of signing someone,” he said, noting that young players need opportunities to prove themselves at the top level. He singled out Asencio for his recent standout performance, stating, “If the club and coach are willing to be bold, this is the perfect time to make room for the young players.”
On the Possible Return of Sergio Ramos
Nacho was also asked about the possibility of Sergio Ramos, another legendary Real Madrid defender, making a comeback to the team. “Sergio is a legend and a friend. It would be nice to see him back with the club, but I don’t have any information. From what’s being said in Spain, it doesn’t seem very likely,” he concluded.
Through these statements, Nacho Fernández reaffirmed his commitment to his new chapter in Saudi football, while showing strong support for Real Madrid’s academy players as a practical option to address the team’s current needs.
