Luka Modric on the Verge of Setting Unique Real Madrid Record
Both the Croatian and Italian, Carlo Ancelotti, are just one win against Atalanta away from making even more history with Real Madrid.
Croatian star Luka Modric will become the most decorated player in Real Madrid’s history if they defeat Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup, claiming his 27th title. Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti will tie the legendary Miguel Muñoz as the club's most successful coach, with 14 trophies.
Modric and Ancelotti are on the brink of Madridista glory, ready to set new records in a season filled with challenges, with the chance to compete for up to seven titles. With Nacho Fernández leaving the club he's called home for his entire career, Luka now takes on the captain's armband and has the opportunity to lead the historical ranking of players with the most titles.
After 58 years, Modric, alongside Nacho, Dani Carvajal, and Toni Kroos, equaled the legendary Paco Gento’s record of six European Cups with their win at Wembley on June 1st. Now, the Croatian midfielder has the chance to become the most decorated player in Real Madrid’s 122-year history.
If Madrid beats Atalanta in Warsaw, Dani Carvajal will also surpass Karim Benzema and Marcelo, tying Nacho with 26 titles as the second most decorated player in Madrid history. Meanwhile, Lucas Vázquez would match the 22 titles of Sergio Ramos and Manolo Sanchís.
Ancelotti: A Legend in Madrid’s Dugout
Winning a third UEFA Super Cup, following victories in 2014 and 2022, would also mark a special moment for Ancelotti at Warsaw’s National Stadium. It would be his 14th title as Madrid’s manager, tying the legendary Miguel Muñoz, but with fewer matches.
In two stints with Real Madrid, Ancelotti has won three Champions Leagues (2014, 2022, and 2024), two La Liga titles (2022 and 2024), two Copa del Rey titles (2014 and 2023), two Club World Cups (2014 and 2022), and two UEFA Super Cups (2014 and 2022). He’s achieved all this in 291 games, with 209 wins, 43 draws, and 39 losses, scoring 697 goals and conceding 327.
Miguel Muñoz managed 605 games between 1960 and 1974, with 357 wins, 128 draws, and 120 losses, scoring a staggering 1,226 goals and conceding 566. The remarkable thing about ‘Carletto’ is that he’s matched this achievement in just five years, between his first stint and the three years since his return in 2021, during which he’s won every title available to him.
