LaLiga Takes Action Against Racist Abuse Directed at Lamine Yamal in El Clásico
LaLiga has announced it will file an immediate complaint regarding the racist insults and gestures aimed at Barcelona players, including Lamine Yamal, during Saturday's El Clásico match at the Santiago Bernabéu. The complaint will be submitted to the National Police and the hate crime and discrimination unit of Spain's Attorney General’s Office.
In a statement, LaLiga condemned the "unacceptable racist behavior" observed at the game, reaffirming its commitment to eradicating any form of racism and hate from sports. "There is no place for such issues in sports," LaLiga stated.
On Sunday, Real Madrid also announced that it had launched an investigation to identify the "few individuals" responsible for the racist abuse directed at Yamal following his goal, aiming to pursue appropriate disciplinary and legal actions. The club "strongly condemns any form of racism, xenophobia, or violence in football and regrets the actions of a few fans at one corner of the stadium."
Videos capturing the aftermath of Yamal’s goal celebration, in which he joined Alejandro Balde, circulated widely on social media, with audible racist insults referencing their skin color.
