How Much Did Jude Bellingham Really Cost Real Madrid? Revealed!
In Germany, the breakdown of what Real Madrid ultimately paid Borussia Dortmund for the English international, including bonuses, has been detailed.
'Sport Bild' published a report detailing Borussia Dortmund's major market operations over the past decade, including the figures surrounding the sale of English player Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid.
For the British midfielder, whose transfer was initially set at $110.21 million with additional variables, the magazine reveals, as previously reported by the Bild newspaper from the same editorial group, that winning La Liga and the Champions League "added around $10.7 million" this year.
Therefore, the total amount that Real Madrid ended up paying Borussia Dortmund for the young English talent was $120.9 million.
Generous Gesture
The report also notes that "the midfielder informed Real Madrid" that he would only move to the Spanish capital "if they met Borussia's demands," as he wanted to provide "the German club with more than $110 million as a show of gratitude" for how he was brought into their ranks.
Dortmund signed Bellingham from Birmingham City in 2020 when he was 17, though the report mentions that "the scouting department was already convinced when the Englishman was still 15."
Borussia would have preferred to sign the midfielder a year earlier, which would have only required a training compensation of about $321,000 at that time.
According to 'Sport Bild,' Bellingham also "out of gratitude," stayed in England for another year and reached an agreement with Birmingham to pay them around $32.1 million, including bonuses.
