Hansi Flick Not Thinking About Transfers
Barcelona’s coach, Hansi Flick, emphasized that despite having eight players out for Saturday’s LaLiga match against Villarreal, the team has shown they can still "play well."
"I never think about transfers. We have a strong squad, and we’ve shown in La Liga how well we can play. Every team faces the same challenges every season—some games are lost, and players get injured. As a coach, you have to accept it. I’m focused on the available players and making sure they give 100%," he stated.
Speaking at a press conference from the Joan Gamper Training Center, the German coach highlighted that neither the busy schedule nor the missing players will serve as an "excuse" to justify a potential dip in Barça’s performance. On Thursday, Barcelona lost 2-1 to Monaco in a game marked by Eric García's red card in the 11th minute.
"We analyzed the game against Monaco, and despite the loss, we saw a lot of positives. We defended really well with ten players. We need to keep working with the same mindset. We’re on the right track, and hopefully, we’ll show that tomorrow," said the Barcelona coach.
Flick praised Villarreal, warning that he expects "a tough match." "They’ve scored the third-most goals in La Liga. They’re playing very well, strong in defense, and know how to control the ball. They’re an offensive team, and it’s fun to watch them play."
He also acknowledged that some players are carrying a heavy load, like Pedri and Marc Casadó, who didn’t train with the group today. "They weren’t feeling great yesterday, but today they’re better. I think they’ll be able to play at 100% tomorrow," he revealed.
On another note, Flick defended Eric García after his red card in Monaco: "A red card is something that can happen. I think he’s doing well and is ready to play in midfield."
He also praised goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen, whose misplaced pass led to Eric García’s red card: "Ter Stegen’s footwork is one of his strengths. Often, our play starts with him; it’s part of our style. He made a mistake, but everyone makes mistakes. Errors are human. That’s behind us now, and we’re already thinking about the next match."
Finally, Flick commented on forward Ansu Fati, noting that he’ll need time to "get back into the rhythm" after being sidelined for several months due to injury. "We want to give him the chance to play and get minutes because he needs them to work his way back into the starting lineup. He’s progressing and can help us a lot," he added.
