Former Boca Juniors Starlet Signs with Sevilla
Argentine defender Valentín Barco is set to play for Sevilla this season on loan from Brighton, following an agreement between the player and both clubs, which doesn’t include a purchase option at the end of the season.
Barco, a left-back who just turned 20 on July 23, rose through the ranks at Boca Juniors, making his way to the first team in just over three seasons after starting in the U-20 squad at just 17 years old, as Sevilla mentioned in a statement released this Friday afternoon.
"His impressive performances in Argentina caught the attention of Brighton, who signed him in January 2024. In the second half of the 2023/24 season, Valentín Barco played in six Premier League matches and one FA Cup game," Sevilla added in their statement, also highlighting that he’s been part of Argentina's U-20 and U-23 teams before making his debut with the senior national team in a friendly against El Salvador on March 23, 2024.
Barco arrived in Sevilla on Thursday night and underwent the mandatory medical tests on Friday, joining Xavi García Pimienta's squad, where he will replace his compatriot Marcos Acuña, who was transferred to River Plate this week.
The new Sevilla player will have the chance to watch the second match of LaLiga against Villarreal live at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium and could be available for the third match, scheduled to be played at Mallorca’s stadium.
