Ferland Mendy Extends his Contract with Real Madrid
Ferland Mendy, Real Madrid's French left-back, has extended his contract, which was set to expire on June 30, 2025, as revealed by coach Carlo Ancelotti, who announced it publicly before the club had made an official statement.
“We’re really happy with Mendy. He’s renewed his contract, and he’s doing a great job,” Ancelotti said during a press conference, talking about the French defender’s situation before Real Madrid had officially confirmed the deal.
The Italian coach praised Mendy's contribution to the team, explaining that his limited offensive involvement is due to specific instructions because he shares the left flank with Brazilian forward Vinícius Jr. “His defensive game is top-notch. When it comes to playing with the ball, he’s not struggling, but I don’t ask him to play like other full-backs might, even though he could definitely do more offensively,” Ancelotti explained.
“The fact that we have such a strong left winger means we don’t ask him to do much going forward. If the winger played more centrally, Mendy would be more involved in attacking, but we don’t ask that of him because it’s better for him to stay back. Sometimes he has to handle defensive overloads,” he added.
