Ex-Real Madrid goalkeeper says Szczesny is better than Ter Stegen
Jerzy Dudek, former goalkeeper for Real Madrid and Liverpool, has stirred up some debate in the football world after claiming that his fellow countryman, Wojciech Szczesny, is a better goalkeeper than FC Barcelona’s current number one, Marc-André Ter Stegen. In an interview with Goal Poland, Dudek pointed out that while Ter Stegen is great with his feet, Szczesny excels in pure shot-stopping.
Dudek kicked off his analysis by saying Szczesny would be an excellent choice to replace Ter Stegen, who is currently injured. He mentioned that he had already floated the idea when Juventus made it clear that they wouldn’t be relying on the Polish keeper for this season. "He’d be a good option for Barcelona, he’d fit right into the team," Dudek said.
One of Dudek’s more eye-catching comparisons was regarding the playing style of both keepers. "Ter Stegen is a master with his feet, and that’s crucial for Barcelona’s style, but when it comes to shot-stopping, Szczesny is the better man between the posts," he stated. This comment has sparked mixed reactions among fans and experts, who appreciate the different qualities both goalkeepers bring to the table.
Dudek also noted that Szczesny wouldn’t just fit in football-wise at Barcelona, but he’d also enjoy the city and warm weather, something the Polish keeper has already experienced while living in Marbella after leaving Juventus. Dudek added that Szczesny’s strong relationship with Robert Lewandowski would make his adaptation to the Barcelona dressing room smoother.
Even though Szczesny had previously said he wanted to take a break after leaving Juventus, Dudek believes a challenge like Barcelona could make him reconsider. "It’s true that he mentioned wanting some time off, but if a chance like this comes up, I think he’d be more than ready to take it," the former Polish goalkeeper added.
