Atlético Madrid Suffers a Tough Defensive Blow
César Azpilicueta, Atlético Madrid’s defender, is set to miss the next four games against Celta, Real Madrid, Benfica, and Real Sociedad due to a muscle injury in his left leg, picked up during the match against Rayo Vallecano.
“Azpilicueta has a muscle injury in his left leg, as confirmed by the tests the player from Navarra underwent,” the club announced on their official channels, without specifying how long he’ll be out.
These kinds of injuries typically require around three weeks of recovery, depending on the severity of the muscle tear and how the player progresses. This means he’ll miss at least the four matches leading up to the next international break and is expected to be back for the match against Leganés on October 20.
“The defender will undergo physiotherapy and gym-based rehab work, and his return to action will depend on how his injury progresses,” stated Atlético’s medical report. Azpilicueta has played five out of seven games for his team this season, starting all five.
