(VIDEO) Barcelona Edge Leganés with Narrow Win in LaLiga
FC Barcelona escaped Butarque with a narrow 1-0 victory over CD Leganés on Saturday, April 12, 2025, in Matchday 31 of LaLiga EA Sports. A second-half own goal by Jorge Sáenz proved enough for Hansi Flick's men to maintain their position atop the league standings.
First half frustration in Butarque
Despite battling relegation, Leganés held their ground well in the opening half. Their compact defensive shape and quick transitions caused problems for the visitors, with Dani Raba creating the clearest chance of the half in the 12th minute, setting up Adrià Altimira, whose shot was brilliantly saved by Wojciech Szczesny.
Coming off a big Champions League win over Dortmund, Barcelona made some rotations and struggled to find rhythm. Lamine Yamal came closest with a shot into the side netting, while Alejandro Balde limped off injured before halftime, raising new concerns for the Barça medical staff.. Alejandro Balde salió lesionado antes del descanso, dejando preocupaciones en el cuerpo técnico.
A costly mistake seals the result
Just three minutes into the second half, the deadlock was broken — not by brilliance, but by misfortune. In the 48th minute, a cross from Raphinha deflected off Jorge Sáenz and into his own net, giving Barcelona the lead.
Barça controlled possession after the goal and nearly doubled their advantage through Fermín López, whose solo run was denied by Marko Dmitrovic. But Leganés pushed hard in the closing stages.
Dani Raba had a goal disallowed, Diego García went close with a long-range effort, and Munir El Haddadi forced a late defensive intervention from Íñigo Martínez. Despite their efforts, the hosts couldn't find the breakthrough.
