"Not Winning the Ballon d'Or Is a Small Detail That Hasn't Affected Vinícius," Says Ancelotti
"For us, Vinícius is a difference-maker. He proved it once again today. Not winning the Ballon d'Or is a small detail that hasn't affected him, as we saw today," he commented in a press conference.
Carlo Ancelotti, the Italian coach of Real Madrid, affirmed after Vinícius Jr.'s hat-trick against Osasuna that "not winning the Ballon d'Or is a small detail" that hasn't impacted his player and downplayed the gesture of support the Brazilian showed by hugging him after his first goal.
When asked about Vinícius’ gesture after his first goal, Ancelotti minimized its significance. "Nothing special—he often comes to the bench to hug and celebrate. Vinícius is a player who makes a difference and is very important to us."
Ancelotti highlighted his team's improvement due to a change in attitude. "We played a good match, started well, with control and patience, and once we opened the scoring with Vini, everything went smoothly, with good attitude and commitment. The downside is the three first-half injuries we’re evaluating.
"The improvement came from a better defensive attitude; the team was more organized, took almost no risks, and there was solid commitment from everyone, which made the difference in the game," he analyzed.
Ancelotti also defended Kylian Mbappé after another scoreless game for the French forward. "He tried today and combined very well. He hasn't scored in recent games, but he's always there, and sooner or later, he’ll score again, no doubt. The important thing is his involvement in attack. Today Vini and Bellingham scored; next game, it could be him."
Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham broke his scoreless streak with his first goal of the season, though Ancelotti valued his overall performance more. "It’s good for him to score, but the goal is just a small detail in a very strong game, both defensively and offensively, with quality, ideas, and continuity."
