Waiting on Edson Álvarez's Injury
Mexico's head coach, Jaime Lozano, stated on Saturday that they will wait for the results of the injury suffered by the team's captain, Edson Álvarez. He acknowledged that his team struggled significantly in their 1-0 victory over Jamaica in their Copa América 2024 Group B debut.
"We'll wait to hear about Edson. In a couple of days, we should get the results to know exactly what he has because we can't risk him," Lozano said in the post-match press conference following the game at the NRG Stadium in Houston.
Regarding the condition of the pitch, Lozano commented that it seemed fine and did not contribute to Álvarez's injury. "I think it was okay to play on, the turf didn't affect it. It would be good if they laid down natural grass earlier, but I felt the pitch was in good condition."
Discussing what Mexico lacked, he noted, "We lacked finishing in some plays, but Jamaica's goalkeeper had a great night. We needed to maintain possession more. But it's the Copa América, and there's no easy opponent or game. Every match is a battle. To win, you have to suffer, and we suffered a lot tonight."
