Messi Predicts Tough Competition in Copa América
Argentinian football star Lionel Messi has forecasted a highly competitive Copa América, which kicks off on June 20 in the United States, attributing this to the high quality of all participating teams. Nonetheless, he acknowledged that Argentina is a top favorite, especially as the reigning World Cup champions.
In an interview with Infobae, Messi stated: "I think Argentina is always a favorite, regardless of our recent successes. Even when we weren't achieving our goals, Argentina was always considered a favorite."
The Inter Miami player added, "When a championship begins, whether it's a World Cup, Copa América, or any other tournament, Argentina is a contender, just like Brazil, especially in this Copa América."
Messi also highlighted the strength of other South American teams: "Today, South American teams are very strong. Uruguay is doing well, as are Colombia and Ecuador. Playing all the matches is very challenging, but I think this Copa América will be highly competitive."
Argentina will kick off the tournament on June 20 in Atlanta, facing Canada in the opening match of the competition.
