Messi and Lamine Yamal Could Face Each Other in the Finalissima
A clash between both stars could happen, but for that to occur, Spain and Argentina would need to win the Eurocup and the Copa America respectively.
Lamine Yamal's outstanding performance in the Eurocup at just 16 years old (he turns 17 on July 13) has sparked comparisons with Lionel Messi. The young star has never hidden that the Argentine is his idol, and now they could face each other head-to-head.
But for that to happen, two scenarios must unfold: Spain must win the Eurocup, and Argentina must do the same in the Copa America.
If both teams become champions, they would face off in the Finalissima, a match between the winners of both tournaments, which was already contested in 2022 with Messi’s Argentina emerging victorious after defeating Italy 3-0.
However, both England in the Eurocup and Colombia in the Copa America could prevent this exciting matchup between Lamine Yamal and Messi from happening.
The first time they met was 16 years ago. It was during a photoshoot that Messi did for a charity calendar, in which he was pictured bathing a baby Lamine Yamal.
In that heartwarming scene, which recently went viral, some saw it as a blessing from the Argentine star. Although Lamine’s father views it differently.
Lamine Yamal grew up marveling at Lionel Messi's displays in Barcelona, and now, if the results align, they could face each other in a showdown that would capture the attention of the entire football world.
