Marquinhos Sees Brazil as the Favorite to Win Copa América
Defender Marquinhos, one of the veterans of the Brazilian national team, stated that "Seleção" must prove their favoritism on the pitch in the Copa América.
The PSG center-back said, "The team to beat is always the champion," meaning Argentina. However, he also sees Brazil as a title contender due to their history.
In both cases, he emphasized that favoritism must be demonstrated through their performance on the field, reminding everyone that in 2021, Brazil was the favorite and in better form than Argentina, but it was the Albiceleste who took home the trophy.
"Brazil, because of our jersey and our history, will always be a favorite. But where it matters is on the pitch," Marquinhos said in a press conference at the pentacampeão's training camp in Orlando, USA.
Regarding the current form of the Brazilian team, Marquinhos noted that coach Dorival Júnior is doing a good job, though he acknowledged that at the start of a new management, there are always "adjustments" needed to improve their play.
Brazil will kick off their Copa América campaign on June 24th against Costa Rica in Los Angeles, and will later face Paraguay and Colombia in Group D.
