Gregg Berhalter Fired from U.S. Men's National Team
Following the recent failure of the U.S. Men's National Team in the 2024 Copa América, where they couldn't advance past the group stage as hosts, head coach Gregg Berhalter has been dismissed from his position.
The team's "X" account announced this through a statement, with U.S. Soccer Federation President Cindy Parlow Cone stating: “I want to thank Gregg for his hard work and dedication to U.S. Soccer and our Men’s National Team.”
“We are now focused on working with our Sporting Director, Matt Crocker, to leverage his experience at the highest levels of the sport to ensure we find the right person to lead the U.S. Men’s National Team into a new era of on-field success.”
Gregg Berhalter was hired in 2018 after the team failed to qualify for that year's World Cup, tasked with leading the team through the process up to Qatar 2022. During his tenure, several stars emerged, including Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, and Tim Weah. He was dismissed after the 2022 World Cup but returned as head coach in June.
Berhalter leaves with a Gold Cup (2021) and two CONCACAF Nations League titles. Questions now swirl around the future of the U.S. team. Who will be the next coach? Klopp, Guardiola, Bruce Arena?
